Allow access to a Web Site based on Specific URL, Keyword in URL or Domain to a specific user

In today’s rapid changing Internet scenario, enterprises to ensure security and productivity 
apply Web filtering to all the users. However, there are instances when these web filter configuration 
needs to be customized for some users. So that they can get access of those Web sites, which 
are blocked for other users.

In the given scenario, microsoft.com is blocked for all the users and it is a part of default Web 
category. Also, users are not allowed to surf any URL containing the word ‘Finance’.

However, administrator wants to provide this access to user ‘John’.

To allow access to microsoft.com and all URLs containing word ‘Finance’ administrator needs 
to create custom web category for domain name microsoft.com and keyword finance.

Custom web category can be created based on:  

    * Domain name – all websites under domain name microsoft.com e.g. http://store.microsoft.com
    * URL – e.g. http://www.microsoft.com
    * Keyword – all websites having keyword “finance” in URL e.g. www.careers-in-finance.com

Note that custom web category has preference over default web category.

This document describes steps to allow microsoft.com or all websites having keyword “finance” 
in URL to the user ‘John’. 

Step 1: Create Custom Web Category for Domain Name microsoft.com

·         Logon to Web admin console and go to Categories à Web Category à Create Custom

·         Enter name and description of the category.

·         Click ‘Create’ button.

·         On successful creation of custom category, click ‘Add’ button under Domain Management 
          section to add microsoft.com in domain list.

·         Click ‘Add’ followed by ‘Update’ button to save and update custom web category.

OR 

Step 1: Create Custom Web Category for Keyword ‘Finance’

·         Logon to Web admin console and go to Categories à Web Category à Create Custom

·         Create custom category.

·         On successful creation of custom category ,click ‘Add’ button under Keyword Management 
          section to add keywords
·         Click ‘Add’ followed by ‘Update’ button to save and update custom web category.

step 2: Create New Internet Access Policy (IAP) or Change Existing Internet Access 
Policy to Allow Custom Web Category

To create a new Internet Access Policy

·         Go to Policies à Internet Access Policy à Create Policy

·         Enter name and type of the policy.

·         Enter description, if required.

·         Select the checkbox to enable HTTPS based categorization

·         Select radio button to enable or disable reporting.

·         Click ‘Create’ button.

·         In Internet Access Policy Rules section, click ‘Add’ button and select custom web 
          category ‘SampleAllow’ (created in Step 1)

·         Select Strategy as ‘Allow’ and During Schedule ‘All the Time’

·         Click ‘Save’ button to save the changes.

To change existing Internet Access Policy

·         Go to Policies à Internet Access Policy à Manage Policy

·         Click the policy which has to be changed.

·         In Internet Access Policy Rules section, click ‘Add’ button and select custom web category ‘SampleAllow’ (created in Step 1)

·         Select Strategy as ‘Allow’ and During Schedule ‘All the Time’

·         Click ‘Save’ button to save the changes.

Above configuration will allow access based on category created in step1 to domain name 
microsoft.com and URLs containing words Finance. 

Note:

1.       In ‘Internet Access Policy Rules’ section custom web category should be kept on 
          the top of all categories 

2.       If existing Internet Access Policy has been modified then next step (Step 3) is not required.

This configuration also shows that any site configured under custom category and allowed manually 
in IAP has the top most priority amongst the denied file type categories 

Step 3: Apply IAP to User

·         Go to User à User à Manage Active

·         Select user to apply IAP created in Step 2.

·         Under Policy Information section, select ‘CustomAllow’ (Step 2) for Internet Access Policy.
·         Click ‘Save’ button to update 

Above configuration will allow access to microsoft.com and URLs containing finance word for user ‘John’.
